The SMSTS course can be delivered on a weekly or day release basis. It is more in-depth than the (SSSTS) and demonstrates how to meet the demand for good health and safety management on site. This course is suitable for project/site managers, supervisors and business proprietors.
The United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) recognises this course as meeting the required standard for all managers working on UKCG sites.
Accreditation – CITB
Duration – 5 days (block or day release)
Grant – you can claim up to £120 if you provide us with your CITB Levy number.
Validation – SMSTS certificates are valid for 5 years, you will need to sit a SMSTS refresher before your 5 years is up.
Entry requirements – there are no formal entry requirements. However, the delegate is to be proficient in English (written and oral).

Course objectives – by the end of the course, the delegate will have a greater knowledge of:
– The Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations 2015.
– Site set-up
– Risk assessments/method statements
– Working at heights
– The health and safety implications of working with scaffolding, electricity, excavations, demolition and confined spaces.
– Any recent changes in accepted working practices and behavioural safety
The SMSTS is a highly interactive course; which uses various methods of teaching including case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual/group presentations. You will also be required to take an exam.
Further development/ qualifications – NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS), NVQ level 6 in Construction Site Management.
