This course aims to refresh your understanding of your key responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health, welfare and the environment. Enabling you to provide healthy and safe working conditions for everyone on site. The SMSTS Refresher course is needed to ensure your SMSTS qualification remains valid. The SMSTS course is more in-depth than the Site Supervisors (SSSTS) course and demonstrates how to meet the ever-increasing demand for evidence of sound health and safety management on site.
The United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) recognises this course as meeting the required standard for all managers working on UKCG sites.
Accreditation – CITB
Duration – 2 days
Grant – you can claim up to £60 if you provide us with your CITB Levy number.
Validation – SMSTS certificates are valid for 5 years, you will need to sit a SMSTS refresher before your 5 years is up.
Entry requirements – A valid and in date SMSTS certificate, be proficient in English (written and oral).

Course objectives – by the end of the delegate:
– Gained knowledge in the Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations 2015.
– Have a greater knowledge of site set-up, risk assessments/method statements and working at heights.
– Better understanding of the health and safety implications of working with scaffolding, electricity, excavations, demolition and confined spaces.
– Have an awareness of any recent changes in accepted working practices and behavioural safety.
The SMSTS is a highly interactive course; which uses various methods of teaching including case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual/group presentations. You will also be required to take an exam.
Further development/ qualifications – NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS), NVQ level 6 in Construction Site Management.
